1. Property Maintenance Over the past two years, the Madaket Land Trust has spent over $53,000 to remove dead trees and other combustable material from parcels of land bordered by Starbuck Road, Madaket Road and Baltimore Street. This work was over and above its ordinary annual maintenance work and resulted in a significant reduction of fire hazard, as recognized by the Mass State Fire Warden, as well as a dramatic improvement in the appearance of the land. During the Summer and Fall of 2024, and with the benefit of a generous matching grant pledged by the Madaket Conservation Association (MCA), the MLT will undertake a program of removal of dead trees and combustable material at four additional locations on Starbuck Rd, Columbus and Arkansas Streets. The budgeted cost for this work is $25,000 and it should result in both reduced fire hazard and improvement in the appearance of these parcels.
2. Tax Exempt Status The Madaket Land Trust has received approval from the IRS to transition from a private foundation to a public charity during a 60-month period beginning May 1, 2024. Your donation remains tax deductible, however, now as a public charity, the MLT can accept donations from donor-advised funds, and is eligible for corporate matching grants. If you have any questions concerning our tax exempt status, please contact the treasurer at karynlindsay4@icloud.com.
